UWP File Explorer

On Windows 10 there was no such thing as the UWP file explorer until recently a user discovered a way to accomplish the task and get it to behave as found on the Windows 10 Mobile smartphone, as far as the design is concerned.

Before we get ahead, make sure you are running the latest feature update on Windows 10 i.e. Creators Update Build 15063.0 and above. In case not, here’s how to download and install it on your machine.

Let’s move on and follow the procedure.

  1. Right-click on an empty area on the desktop
  2. Click New >> Shortcut from the menu
  3. In the dialog box, enter explorer shell:AppsFolder\c5e2524a-ea46-4f67-841f-6a9465d9d515_cw5n1h2txyewy!App as the location and click Next.
  4. Enter a friendly name for the shortcut (say ‘UWP Explorer’).
  5. Find this icon on your desktop and double-click to open the UWP version of file explorer. Boom!

Please note, this version of File Explorer although looks fancy, but is more error prone and often crashes when working with files. You have been warned!
