Lenovo unveils its VR headset to take on Oculus Rift and HTC VIVE

0

Lenovo has become the first company to introduce a VR headset solely running on the Microsoft’s Windows Holographic platform. The launch happened at CES 2017, and the Verge reported it exclusively along with the price tag of $300 to $400.

However, all we know it is a Holographic VR headset since the name is un-clear at the moment but the general availability of the device is expected sometime in 2017, Verge reported.

Here are some of the key points of interest:

  • It uses two 1440 x 1440 OLED panels for the display (higher resolution than both the Rift and the Vive)
  • Implements inside-out six-degrees of freedom tracking
  • Employs space tracking much like Microsoft HoloLens since there are no motion-controller devices.
  • Features two front-mounted cameras to enable the use of augmented reality applications even without direct external vision.
  • Works with Windows Store Apps and some Holographic apps, too.
  • Lighter than the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive (350g of final version).
  • Cheaper than the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive ($300-$400).
