Microsoft announces general availability (GA) of support for external tools within the Power BI Desktop

0

Microsoft has announced the General Availability (GA) of support for external tools within the Power BI Desktop authoring experience.

Introduced last year in July, Microsoft has since then received a ton of feedback (for the preview version) from the community by integrating the tools and helping them to add new tools, improve performance and reliability.

The external tools in Power BI Desktop will provide the following benefits.

  • BI professionals can enjoy a range of additional semantic modeling features, DAX query/expression optimization and authoring, and application lifecycle management (ALM) capabilities.
  • An extensibility model is introduced for Power BI Desktop. Customers are empowered to build their own tools to extend the core functionality of Power BI Desktop for their own needs.
