Microsoft today pushed new security patch builds to Windows 10 versions 1809, 1803 and 1709. Windows 10 Build 17763.593 (KB4509479), Build 17134.860 (KB4509478) & Build 16299.1239 (KB4509477) brought fixes and improvements for Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators update), version 1803 (April 2018 update) and version 1809 (October 2108 update).
But these patches also had known issues listed by Microsoft in the changelog provided by them. One of the known issues common to the three patches is the “Black Screen” issue that can happen after installing the patches.
We are investigating reports that a small number of devices may startup to a black screen during the first logon after installing updates.
Microsoft has however provided a workaround and is also working to provide a permanent solution.
To mitigate this issue, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then select the Power button in the lower right corner of the screen and select Restart. Your device should now restart normally.
We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
There is one more issue that our readers, especially in Asian countries, may like to know about. The issue is related to Asian language packs.
After installing patches devices with some Asian language packs installed may receive the error, “0x800f0982 – PSFX_E_MATCHING_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND.”
Here is the workaround provided by Microsoft.
- Uninstall and reinstall any recently added language packs. For instructions, see Manage the input and display language settings in Windows 10.
- Select Check for Updates and install the April 2019 Cumulative Update. For instructions, see Update Windows 10.
Note If reinstalling the language pack does not mitigate the issue, reset your PC as follows:
- Go to the Settings app > Recovery.
- Select Get Started under the Reset this PC recovery option.
- Select Keep my Files.
