Did Microsoft India President hint at Surface Phone’s existence? Not exactly, but one is certainly in works

In an interview to Digit, Anant Maheshwari, President for Microsoft India has not dropped a clear hint at Surface Phone’s existence but rather has tried to convey that Microsoft has some plans for Mobile. But these plans so far are related to applications and experiences on all Mobile platforms.

If you check what he exactly said you can make out that there is no confirmation anywhere of Surface Phone being in works. Though many may take solace in the fact that he didn’t said no when asked about “the last word from Microsoft on making smartphones”.

Digit: What is the last word from Microsoft on making smartphones? We keep hearing rumours of a Surface Phone. Is there one in the works?

Anant:I think given the world that we live in, we should never be talking about last words.

Digit: So are there any new words you would like to share with us?

Anant: I would say in the form-factors we are currently really focussed on, clearly the Surface line of products which has Surface Hub, the Surface Studio, the Surface Book and the Surface Pros, we have a lot of capabilities across those devices, and we are continuing the focus on those form-factors.

As far as mobiles are concerned, we are working with all the major OEMs and OS players to create new applications and experiences. We want people to be able to access all Microsoft apps and services on the mobile form factor also.

But we have been reporting about Microsoft still working on a foldable dual-display Surface Mobile/Andromeda device. We even posted exclusive details about this device and you can read our exclusive coverage of Surface Phone/Mobile top features/specs/UI design, photos & other details here.

We posted some evidence that shows that Microsoft is already working to curate Apps collections for the Surface Phone/Mobile. A recent job opening has revealed that Microsoft may be working on a 1st-party hardware (Surface device/phone) powered by just announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.

We had exclusively reported that 2018 may see Surface Mobile (Surface Phone) & Windows mobile devices from top vendors too. In a recent poll, our readers selected Surface Phone as the most appealing name for the ultimate mobile device from Microsoft. Surface Mobile and Note names came at 2nd and 3rd rank.
