It was always Microsoft’s plan to roll-out a major Windows 10 update every six months as a part of “WAAS” or Windows As A Service strategy. But in a show of its growing confidence in WAAS strategy execution, Microsoft has announced Windows 10 major updates in months of March and September every year.

In an official Blog Post, Microsoft has made this announcement.

  • Windows is committing to a predictable twice-per-year feature release schedule, targeting September and March of each year, aligning with Office 365 ProPlus. The next Windows 10 feature update will be targeted for September 2017.
  • Each Windows 10 feature release will be serviced and supported for 18 months. This is consistent with our current Windows 10 approach, but adds further clarity and predictability to organizations by aligning with Office 365 ProPlus.

So, next Windows 10 major update which we know as Redstone 3 is rather planned for release in September 2017. So, while targeting is one thing we will have to see how well Microsoft can get the update out within timelines.

Microsoft has also made it clear that every Windows 10 major update will be supported for 18 months.
