Microsoft might be in a hurry to shut down the support portal for Windows 7 but the company wants to make sure that the users are as safe and secure as the users on Windows 10 or Windows 8.1.
The company is reportedly planning to push a critical update to Windows 7 next month and this is something on which you should pay attention. The new update will help Windows 7 to go through a transition from SHA-1 encryption to more advanced, secure, SHA-2 encryption. Once installed, you will be on the same encryption model as that of the users on Windows 10 or Windows 8.1.
Besides the security concerns over the SHA-1 encryption, there is another important factor which makes the update a must install. The subsequent updates that will come after this update will be based on SHA-2 encryption, meaning you do need the right framework which in this case is the SHA-2 and not SHA-1. Ignoring the March update is equivalent to turn around from the SHA-2 encryption and the result might not go in your favor.
The update will arrive in the month of March on the Patch Tuesday for all Windows 7 users including Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 SP1 and SP2.
