Report: HP to stop selling Elite X3 from November as Windows 10 Mobile loses support

0

A recent report from Germany claims that HP may soon stop selling its Windows 10 flagship smartphone HP Elite X3. Attributing this news to its sources Windows United site mentions that while sale stops on November 1, HP Elite X3 will be supported until October 2018.

This support deadline for Elite X3 may correspond very well to the support timeframe for Windows 10 Mobile by Microsoft. Microsoft has almost made it clear that they are not working to make Windows 10 Mobile as we know it now survive for long. In fact, the latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview has brought only bug-fixing and minor improvements in terms of changes. It is also being catered from a separate branch (Feature2) than the mainstream Windows 10.

This lack of interest in developing and prioritizing Windows 10 Mobile in its current form may have been the reason that Windows Mobile vendors have either withdrawn or are planning to withdraw from the market. Microsoft has not launched first-party flagship hardware since Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL canceling Lumia 960 and other planned Lumia smartphones.

We had recently reported about Microsoft working to bring new first-party hardware running “Andromeda” in the 2nd half of 2018. Windows 10 Mobile as we know it along with currently available hardware based on it is looking at end of support in late 2018. So, it is not just a matter of coincidence. This may also indicate that none of the existing Windows 10 Mobile phones will be able to support Andromeda.
