BUILD 2014 on 2nd April will be the place and time when developers get the Windows 8.1 update 1 and it will be available for all on April 8. Microsoft has since then signed off the RTM version. At MWC 2014 , Joe Belfiore from Microsoft has talked about the changes that this update is supposed to bring. Lots of those changes go in enabling low-cost hardware and UI improvements targeted at making life easier for mouse and keyboard users. - Boot directly to desktop option
- Search button and shut down option will also be present now on the start screen itself as seen in the above screenshot.
- Other changes include control panel link in PC settings and ability to show store apps in the taskbar.
- The screenshot confirms ability to minimize, close metro apps and snap apps side-by-side with the help of the black bar on the top of the apps.
- Apart from that, one can now right-click on any of the live tiles on the start screen to bring up context-sensitive menu with ability to resize, unpin and more.
