Microsoft in last few years toyed with many consumer product ideas including Smartphones, Smartwatches, Mini Tablets and more but cancelled many of them. It cancelled some of them even after launching them. Microsoft Band was cancelled after 2 generations of the product saw the market.
Now, images have emerged of a new Microsoft smartwatch prototype that carries Xbox logo earning a name Xbox smartwatch. Nokia and Microsoft enthusiast Hikari Calyx has posted these images on Twitter. The device is in working condition and the images show some basic functionalities of the smartwatch.
There are some tear-down images too.
It is not clear when Microsoft was planning a Xbox Smartwatch or what was the reason behind using Xbox brand for a smartwatch. But it may well be much before the Microsoft Band. The reason behind Xbox brand could have been that it was the only powerful consumer hardware brand that Microsoft had before “Surface”.
