Microsoft is rolling out a major upgrade to Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Copilot that gives the AI assistant the ability to read information across all your open browser tabs at the same time.

The new feature makes Copilot far more useful for research, shopping, travel planning and everyday browsing by allowing it to understand the full context of multiple webpages instead of just a single tab.

Copilot Can Now Analyze All Open Tabs in Edge

With the new update, users can ask Copilot to scan every open tab in the browser and generate a quick summary of the information across those pages.

This means if you have several articles, shopping pages, recipes or travel sites open, Copilot can combine the information into one easy-to-read overview instead of requiring you to manually compare everything yourself.

Microsoft says the feature can also help users:

  • Compare products and prices
  • Evaluate hotel and travel options
  • Organize research from multiple pages
  • Build plans and recommendations
  • Simplify information overload from many tabs

Smarter Planning and Comparison Features

One of the most practical uses highlighted by Microsoft involves recipe planning.

For example, if multiple cooking recipe tabs are open, Copilot can:

  • Adjust ingredient quantities based on the number of guests
  • Combine recipes into a cooking timeline
  • Create a shopping list automatically
  • Suggest the best preparation order

The feature essentially turns Edge into an AI-powered workspace assistant that can understand and organize information spread across many webpages.

Privacy Controls Remain Optional

Microsoft says the feature is completely optional and users must manually enable it before Copilot can access tab information.

Users will need to grant permission for tab access inside Edge, and the feature can be disabled anytime through browser settings.

According to Microsoft, user information is handled under the company’s existing privacy and security policies.

Why This Matters

The update shows how browser-based AI assistants are evolving beyond simple chatbots into productivity tools capable of handling large amounts of information at once.

Instead of switching between dozens of tabs manually, users can increasingly rely on AI to summarize, compare and organize content in real time.

This also puts Microsoft in a stronger position in the AI browser race as companies continue integrating generative AI deeper into everyday web browsing experiences.
