Microsoft Edge debuts on iOS and Android, reserved for Windows Insiders

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft is announcing a preview of Microsoft Edge web browser for iOS as well as Android. With the new preview apps, as per Microsoft, it will be easy to switch working between your phone and PC, almost instantly.

Microsoft Edge for iOS is available starting today in the preview, with Microsoft Edge for Android available soon in the preview.

This has been long rumored and was undoubtedly the most requested feature by Windows Insiders since the launch of Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. Again, Microsoft Edge is no longer a Windows 10 exclusive and Microsoft seems to be Ok with the fact that it wants to leave its footprints on every major platform, mostly on mobile devices.

One of the most common requests we hear from people who use Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 PCs is “we want our browser experience to move to our phones”. You spoke, we listened.

Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android brings familiar features like your Favorites, Reading List, New Tab Page and Reading View. Android and iOS smartphone users can also take advantage of some exclusive features like a built-in QR Code reader to find, view, and share content, Voice Search, and Quick Links on the homepage.

With Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, users will also be able to take advantage of Continue on PC experience. With Continue on PC, you can link your Windows PC to the phone and then send across links from your phone to view them on a bigger screen or edit an Office 365 Word document etc. you just received via an email.

Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android will initially launch only in US-English, but Microsoft will add more countries/languages in the future updates.

In addition, support for iPads/Android tablets are not available at the moment but it will arrive in the future.

iOS users can test the preview app via Apple TestFlight, and Android users can sign up to be one of the first to test the preview app, available soon.
