Microsoft to sell Samsung Galaxy S8 / Plus Microsoft Edition devices at its Retail Stores

Microsoft will be doing something quite unimaginable very soon. Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are the latest Flagship Android smartphones that Samsung launched yesterday amid much fanfare. Now, who could have imagined that Microsoft will sell a special Microsoft Edition of Galaxy S8 at its US retails stores.

Microsoft has today announced that they will sell Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ Microsoft Edition starting April 21 at Microsoft Store locations in US.

Today Microsoft and Samsung continue their partnership to help businesses harness the power of mobility by featuring the best business productivity apps and software. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Microsoft Edition are available to pre-order now and for purchase beginning April 21 at U.S. Microsoft Store locations.

So, it seems Microsoft apps like Office, OneDrive, Cortana and more will get installed on Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus Microsoft Edition, after booting and connecting to WiFi for the first time.

A Microsoft customization is applied to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Microsoft Edition when the devices are unboxed and connected to Wi-Fi. Awww, that sucks. I thought that they were going to install Windows 10 Mobile supporting Enyxos.

Makes you wonder what effect this would have on sales of the Surface Phone (if it ever sees the light of day). My main quibbles with the S8 (compared to a Lumia 950, my daily driver) are the non-removable battery and the fact that in the dual sim variant the second sim doubles as the microSD slot.
