The most powerful moments in any presentation happen when you and your audience step away from a one-sided monologue and begin exploring an idea together. Yet, for years, creating dynamic, clickable, and visually engaging elements meant spending hours wrestling with complex animations, shape-building, and layout adjustments. Microsoft is changing that paradigm by bringing interactive storytelling directly into our workflows.
Through the new “Create interactive slide” skill in PowerPoint powered by Microsoft Copilot, turning dense concepts, data snapshots, and institutional knowledge into immersive narratives is now effortless. Whether you are walking stakeholders through a complex business process, comparing strategic options, or highlighting live metrics from a dashboard, interactive slides invite your audience to engage directly with your content.
Why Static Slides Fall Short (And How Interactive Slides Fix It)
Traditional slide decks often suffer from information overload. When presenters cram text-heavy bullets, extensive timelines, and crowded metrics onto a single screen, audience attention quickly fades.
Interactive slides solve this challenge by allowing presenters to reveal information progressively, guide attention precisely where it needs to go, and turn passive viewers into active participants. By combining Copilot’s content intelligence with fluid visual storytelling, you can communicate intricate concepts clearly while spending a fraction of the time building custom experiences from scratch.
Key Use Cases for Interactive Slides:
Dynamic Dashboards: Visualize key snapshots of your data, complete with grounding from Work IQ and connected spreadsheets.
Interactive Timelines & Process Flows: Walk through multi-stage projects or chronological milestones step-by-step without overwhelming the screen.
Concept Summaries: Distill intricate product features or high-level strategies into explorable visual blocks.
Side-by-Side Comparisons: Evaluate products, market scenarios, or strategic alternatives dynamically.
How to Get Started with Interactive Slides in PowerPoint
Getting started with this feature is straightforward, designed to fit right into your existing presentation workflow:
Via the Ribbon: Select Interactive Slide directly from the PowerPoint Insert ribbon and describe the slide you want to build. You can reference content already in your active presentation or pull context seamlessly from external files like a Word document or an Excel workbook.
Via the Copilot Skills Picker: Access the feature right from the Copilot chat pane alongside your other favorite PowerPoint tools by calling up the “Create interactive slide” skill.
Once prompted, Copilot analyzes your request and institutional context, generating a polished, interactive slide layout that you can immediately click through, refine, and present.
Availability and Rollout
Microsoft has announced that the Create interactive slide skill and dedicated ribbon button are rolling out now across platforms:
PowerPoint for Windows & Mac: Rolling out for Current Channel and Monthly Enterprise Channel users, with full availability expected by the end of October 2026.
PowerPoint for the Web: Rollout is currently underway and expected to be fully complete by the end of October 2026.
