Windows 10 Fall Creators Update: A closer look at new Windows Experiences (Major Features)

0

At Build 2017 on day 2 , Microsoft announced a handful of new features, innovations and technologies for Windows 10, so that you as a developer can take advantage of new tools to build new experiences for customers and users. Joe Belfiore also shared the stage and in his own style explained (and demoed) a bunch of new innovations coming with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, fall 2017.

Here we take a closer look at some of the new innovations viz. travel back in time, pick up where you left off, and OneDrive files on demand coming to more than 500 million devices running Windows 10. All of these experiences stay with you on all your devices (either Windows 10, iOS or Android) and are tied together using Microsoft Graph. With the combined intelligence of Microsoft Graph and Microsoft Cloud(Azure), your experiences or workflow (conversations, projects, and content) travels seamlessly between Windows, iOS and Android devices, thus pushing you to be more productive across all your devices.
Windows Timeline

Windows Timeline

Windows Timeline lets you jump back in time to find what you were working on, whether it was 2 hours or 2 months ago. Easily hop back into your files, apps and sites as if you never left. This experience also follows you as you switch devices among Windows 10, iOS or Android.

Here’s a short video demo of Windows Timeline in action:

Pick up where you left off

Lately known as “Continue experiences” on Windows 10 Creators Update, Microsoft is looking to take the feature step further with Cortana and the power of Microsoft Graph and Cloud. When you log out of one device say Windows PC and switch to another, say Android phone. Cortana, available on Android, asks if you want to continue working in your app, doc or website on this device.
What is more, you can even copy content including text, images, videos etc. on one device and paste between connected devices from your clipboard.

Here’s a short video demo of Pick up where you left off in action:

Save local disk space with OneDrive Files on-demand

This feature lets you access your files in the cloud without using storage space on your device with OneDrive Files On-Demand. All your files can be seen in File Explorer and accessed on-demand whenever they are needed. What this simply means is you can preview the files right inside the app/browser on cloud, and download it later, if you need to. This is pretty neat feature especially if you are carrying a tablet device with a low storage space.

All of this should be and would be available by the end of this year with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. But, as always if you are excited to get your hands on these new features before anyone else does, join the Windows Insider Program for early access.

Infact, the new Story Remix feature already made its way in latest Insider Build 16193 on Windows 10 PC Fast ring.
