New features/Changes:

  • Continuum portrait mode support: Introducing portrait mode support for Continuum starting with this build of Windows 10 Mobile. To enable this,  go to Settings > System > Display on your device and change the display orientation to “Portrait” and press apply. If your phone is connected to a monitor via cable, your phone will ask you to disconnect and reconnect the cable to the external display and press ok to change the orientation to portrait. If your phone is connected to a monitor via Wi-Fi, your phone will ask you to disconnect and reconnect to your wireless display. Once this is done, your phone will remember the orientation and you will not have to repeat the setup process when connecting again to the same monitor.
  • Emoji 5.0: Added support for the latest Unicode updates – including new snacks, actions, dinosaurs, and even fantasy characters like genies, fairies and zombies – to Windows 10 Mobile in this build. They’re all accessible via both the touch keyboard and the Emoji Panel.     Chinese Lunar Calendar: We have received questions about supporting the Chinese Lunar calendar on Windows 10 Mobile. The power of a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app is that it can run on any Windows-based device. The Calendar UWP app supports the Chinese Lunar calendar on both PC and Mobile. Here’s how you  can enable the calendar on Mobile:

    3. Enable “Alternative Calendars” and select Chinese and Lunar in the dropdowns.

  • Two-factor Authentication: We are excited to announce that we’ve introduced a two factor authentication unlock mechanism for Windows 10 Mobile. With two factor unlock, an enterprise can enforce an additional security layer to their sensitive data via an MDM policy. Once two factor unlock is enabled, a phone user will have to enter a numeric pin followed by an enterprise-defined factor to unlock the phone.
  • AppLocker Improvements: A number of customers have provided feedback on the warning prompts for apps that are blocked by enterprise policies. We’ve improved the UX and updated the MDM SyncML scripts associated with the policies.
  • VPN Improvements: In the modern corporate workplace, mobility is mainstream and secure access to corporate data via VPN has become the norm. We are bringing a range of improvements and features that enhance the reliability of VPN on Windows 10 Mobile. The key updates to our VPN capability are:
    • Lots of reliability improvements for VPN connectivity in Windows 10 Mobile.
    • IKEv2 Sleep and Power Enhancements.
    • VPN completes all pending actions before sleep and disconnects.
    • Automatic reconnection on resume.
    • Force tunneled improvements for UWP platform.
    • Proxy improvements for UWP VPN profile.
    • Enabling MMS usage when VPN is connected.

  • Addressed issue where some UWP and Centennial apps show a gray icon and display the error message “This app can’t open” on launch.
  • Addressed reliability issue that causes the AppReadiness service to stop working.
  • Addressed issue where applications that use the Silverlight map stack stop working.
  • Addressed issue where VSync prevents devices from entering Panel Self Refresh mode, which can lead to reduced battery life.
  • Addressed issue where user customizations (like pinned tiles) made to an enforced partial Start layout are lost when upgrading to Windows 10 1703.
  • Addressed issue where the Universal CRT caused the linker (link.exe) to stop working for large projects.
  • Addressed issue that prevents Windows Error Reporting from saving error reports in a temporary folder that is recreated with incorrect permissions. Instead, the temporary folder is inadvertently deleted.
  • Addressed issue where the MSMQ performance counter (MSMQ Queue) may not populate queue instances when the server hosts a clustered MSMQ role.
  • Addressed issue with the token broker where it was leaking a token that caused sessions to remain allocated after logoff.
  • Addressed issue where Personal Identity Verification (PIV) smart card PINs are not cached on a per-application basis. This caused users to see the PIN prompt multiple times in a short time period; normally, the PIN prompt only displays once.
  • Addressed issue where using the Cipher.exe /u tool to update Data Recovery Agent (DRA) encryption keys fails unless user certification encryption already exists on the machine.
  • Addressed issue where using AppLocker to block a Modern app fails. This issue occurs only with Modern apps that come pre-installed with Windows.
  • Addressed issue with form submissions in Internet Explorer.
  • Addressed issue with the rendering of a graphics element in Internet Explorer.
  • Addressed issue that prevents an element from receiving focus in Internet Explorer.
  • Addressed issue with the docking and undocking of Internet Explorer windows.

  • Addressed issue where a Vendor API deleted data unexpectedly.
  • Addressed issue where using the Robocopy utility to copy a SharePoint document library, which is mounted as a drive letter, fails to copy files. However, in this scenario, Robocopy will copy folders successfully.
  • Addressed issue where MDM USB restrictions did not disable the USB port as expected.
  • Addressed issue where creating an iSCSI session on a new OS installation may result in the “Initiator instance does not exist” error when attempting to connect to a target.
  • Addressed issue where connecting to RDS applications published using Azure App Proxy fails. The error message is, “Your computer can’t connect to the Remote Desktop Gateway server. Contact your network administrator for assistance”. The error can occur when the RDP cookie size limit is exceeded. This update increased the size of the RDP cookie limit.
  • Addressed issue where USBHUB.SYS randomly causes memory corruption that results in random system crashes that are extremely difficult to diagnose.
  • Addressed issue that affects the download of some games from the Windows Store during the pre-order phase. Download fails with the error code 0x80070005, and the device attempts to restart the download from the beginning.
  • Addressed issue where the ServerSecurityDescriptor registry value does not migrate when you upgrade to Windows 10 1703. As a result, users might not be able to add a printer using the Citrix Print Manager service. Additionally, they might not be able to print to a client redirected printer, a Citrix universal print driver, or a network printer driver using the Citrix universal print driver.
  • Security updates to Microsoft Windows Search Component, Windows kernel-mode drivers, Microsoft Graphics Component, Internet Explorer, Windows kernel, Microsoft Edge, Windows Authentication, Windows TPM, Device Guard, Windows Wireless Networking, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Microsoft Windows DNS, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Server, Windows Subsystem for Linux, Microsoft JET Database Engine, and the Windows SMB Server.
  • In preparation for the release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the product version number has been updated to 1709 just like PC.
  • We fixed an issue where, on powering the screen off/on, high demand for CPU could cause several apps to crash. Background processing of photos is an example of high CPU demand. In a photo shoot session, you may have seen the Camera app crash.
  • We fixed an issue with the Messaging app where conversation text was displayed incorrectly. Thanks to our Insiders that quickly highlighted this issue.
  • Addressed issue where the color profiles do not revert to the user-specified settings after playing a full-screen game.
  • Updated HDR feature to be turned off by default in the OS.
  • Addressed issue where you can’t open the Start menu when you add a third-party IME.
  • Addressed issue with scanners that rely on inbox driver support.
  • Addressed issue in a Mobile Device Manager Enterprise feature to allow headsets to work correctly.
  • Addressed issue where some machines fail to load wireless WAN devices when they resume from Sleep.
  • Addressed issue where Windows Error Reporting doesn’t clean up temporary files when there is a redirection on a folder.
  • Addressed issue where revoking a certificate associated with a disabled user account in the CA management console fails. The error is “The user name or password is incorrect. 0x8007052e (WIN32: 1326 ERROR_LOGON_FAILURE)”.
  • Addressed issue where LSASS is leaking large amounts of memory.
  • Addressed issue where enabling encryption using syskey.exe renders the system unbootable.
  • Updated the BitLocker.psm1 PowerShell script to not log passwords when logging is enabled.
  • Addressed issue where saving a credential with an empty password to Credential Manager causes the system to crash when attempting to use that credential.

  • We fixed an issue where the MTP service would sometimes crash when you disconnected your phone while a file transfer is in progress.
  • We fixed a spin loop that was occasionally triggered by deleting a VPN profile.
  • We fixed an issue where apps which call into the firewall (such as Microsoft Edge) have the potential of becoming deadlocked and the app hangs until you reboot your phone.
  • We fixed an issue in the routing engine used by apps like Maps where the initial direction was always set to North which could result in unnecessary route segments.
  • We fixed an issue where Silverlight apps that use GPS would either not start or crash.
  • We fixed an issue where a non-default Messaging app (e.g. Skype) would crash with an Access Denied error when changing Download messages settings.
  • We fixed an issue where the new Privacy Consent pop-up would block loading of apps which used the activity detection and pedometer sensors.
  • We fixed an issue where turning on/off Reset Protection could cause the phone to reboot.
  • Addressed issue where the policies provisioned using Mobile Device Management (MDM) should take precedence over policies set by provisioning packages.
  • Addressed issue where the Site to Zone Assignment List group policy (GPO) was not set on machines when it was enabled.
  • Addressed issue where the AppLocker rules wizard crashes when selecting accounts.
  • Addressed issue where the primary computer relationship is not determined when you have a disjoint NetBIOS domain name for your DNS Name. This prevents folder redirection and roaming profiles from successfully blocking your profile or redirects folders to a non-primary computer.
  • Addressed issue where an access violation in the Mobile Device Manager Enterprise feature causes stop errors.

  • We fixed a regression that was introduced in build 15245 where the fingerprint reader on the HP Elite X3 did not turn on the screen. You needed to turn on the screen before you could use Windows Hello.
  • We fixed some issues where the Maps app navigation would start navigating a route and after performing a reroute, would present a list of possible routes instead of adjusting to the current route.
  • We also improved map-matching particularly for routes using ferries.
  • We fixed an issue where an app using the routing engine (e.g. Maps) would timeout on providing the route if suspended for more than 30 seconds.
  • We fixed an issue where tiles on the Start screen would occasionally be blank.
  • We fixed an issue where a VPN profile that was created via the VPN Management API would always be a dial-up profile.
  • We fixed an issue with the MDM policy used to control Build Flighting by Mobile Enterprise.
  • We fixed a couple of navigation issues when changing from highway to highway (occasionally, signposts were copied from the original highway to the destination highway) and highway to non-highway (erroneous instruction to “enter highway”).
  • We fixed a rare issue where the user’s call history was shown as corrupt after an upgrade.
  • We fixed the issue where trying to update Windows Store apps saved to your SD card resulted in an 8007000B error. Apps installed on SD cards should update without any issue.
  • We fixed an issue where there was no icon shown for Windows Update for either new notifications or on the settings page under Settings > System > Notifications & actions.
  • We fixed an issue where downloading large apps could report out of disk space when there is sufficient space available.
  • We fixed an issue where installing apps (particularly games) from the Windows Store would sometimes fail with “Error, see details”.
  • We fixed an issue where a device could not be unlocked after removing/turning off Windows Hello.
  • We fixed an issue where Cortana would not provide the region when saying “Your region is set to” and then “Is that right?”.
  • We fixed a Turkish localization issue where the string “We need to fix your Microsoft account before you can use shared experiences …” was shown in English.
  • Addressed issue introduced by KB4022716 where Internet Explorer 11 may close unexpectedly when you visit some websites.
  • Addressed issue to improve MediaCreationTool.exe support for Setup Tourniquet scenarios.
  • Addressed issue with CoreMessaging.dll that may cause 32-bit apps to crash on the 64-bit version of the Windows OS.
  • Addressed an issue where Visual Studio or a WPF application may terminate unexpectedly (stops responding, followed by a crash) when running on a pen and/or touch enabled machine with Windows 10 Creators Update.
  • Addressed issue that causes the system to crash when certain USB devices are unplugged while the system is asleep.
  • Addressed issues with screen orientation that stops working after lid close and lid open transitions.
  • Addressed issue that causes .jpx and .jbig2 images to stop rendering in PDF files.
  • Addressed issue where users could not elevate to Administrator through the User Account Control (UAC) dialog when using a smart card.
  • Addressed issue where input using the Korean handwriting feature dropped the last character of a word or moved it to the next line incorrectly.
  • Addressed issue with a race condition between the App-V Catalog Manager and the Profile Roaming Service. A new registry key is available to control the waiting period for App-V Catalog Manager, which allows any third-party Profile Roaming Service to complete.
  • Addressed issue where controls in Win32 applications intermittently fail to render correctly when started from a logoff script using the “run shutdown scripts visible” policy described in https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms811629.aspx.

  • Addressed issue where NTFS sparse files were unexpectedly truncated (NTFS sparse files are used by Data Deduplication – deduplicated files may be unexpectedly corrupted as a result). Also updated chkdsk to detect which files are corrupted.
  • We fixed an issue where VPN profile appeared to be always ON.
  • We fixed a notification issue between the Bluetooth Support Service and device background services for fitness bands.
  • We fixed issues with Caller ID matching in Japan & Denmark.
  • We have fixed notifications (SMS, Calendar) with all Fitbit trackers.
  • We have fixed crashes reported while using Photos app.
  • We have fixed a deployment issue in where if an admin uses ActiveSyncCSP to provisioning email account on device running the Windows 10 Creators Update without providing a valid password, and the email server enforces a limited number of denied access retries, then the server will lock out the email account.
  • We have improved battery performance by fixing a bug in a scenario where 30% more power was used during Camera app preview and capture mode.
  • Some Insiders provided feedback that playing video on phone resulted in a black flash and/or stuttering when in landscape mode. We have fixed this issue.
  • We have improved Bluetooth connectivity with Garmin Wearable devices.
  • General improvement in reliability of phones by fixing top crash issues.
  • We fixed an issue where some apps could not subscribe to SMS receive notifications.
  • We fixed an issue for Windows Insiders where some binaries stopped working when transitioning from Insider Preview builds to officially released builds.
  • We fixed an audio issue with Bluetooth headphones after Cortana reads an incoming SMS message to the user.
  • We fixed an issue where only the first VPN profile was being displayed in the VPN settings page via Settings > Network & wireless > VPN.
  • We fixed an issue where a meeting Time Zone was garbled in Chinese or Japanese.
  • Based on Insider feedback, we have changed “Phone Update” to “Windows Update” under Settings > Update & security.
  • The copyright date is correctly showing 2017 now under Settings > System > About.
  • We fixed an issue where WhatsApp would not launch after updating to the latest Mobile builds.
  • We fixed an issue with using the Japanese 12 Key soft keyboard where the “right arrow” key did not input a space
  • We fixed an issue with the Bulgarian keyboard localization for the HP Lap Dock in Continuum.
  • We have further improved the reliability of notifications for apps with a paired Bluetooth device, such as Fitbit.
  • Improved the Time & Language settings page UX for Speech and Keyboard language downloads. Previously, the status would show “Downloading” for speech and “Installing” for keyboard. Unless, the user tapped on the language or navigated to the Update & Security settings page, there was no indication that a restart is required to complete the installation. Now when the update reaches the reboot pending state, a “Restart Required” is displayed under the language.
  • We fixed several enterprise device management issues.
  • We fixed an issue where notifications and Cortana’s cross-devices settings on your device were not being mirrored to your PC.
  • We fixed an issue where the Call audio did not move to speaker after removing the headset on some phones.
  • We have improved power and performance for apps, such as Fitbit, for pair, connect, sync and notifications.
  • We fixed an issue where notifications would not be mirrored to the user’s PC and Cortana’s cross-device settings would not persist.
  • We fixed an issue where the Battery Settings page caused the device to become unresponsive and appear to have hung.
  • We fixed a general issue where certain background tasks were being incorrectly starved under resource contention. This issue would impact music and video playback.
  • Under low memory conditions, additional app launches will cause the OS to run out-of-memory and the device will restart unexpectedly to recover. This fix detects the condition and blocks app launches until memory is freed up.
  • We fixed an issue with Microsoft Edge which prevented the phone from entering Connected Standby which caused battery drain.
  • We fixed an issue where the word auto-correction service would crash.
  • We fixed 2 issues causing the device screen to stay off when unplugging from the Continuum dock after screen has timed out normally requiring the device to be rebooted to recover.
  • We fixed an issue with the Notifications Settings page which made the UI appear unresponsive.
  • We fixed an Enterprise MDM issue where the policy could hide all pages except the Work Access page.
  • We fixed an issue with the Glance screen where the time was not updating.
  • We fixed the token issue so when your device syncs to the service, text messages should show back up.
  • We’ve fixed the issue where some Insiders were unable to open both the Connect UX page and/or the “Add Bluetooth or other devices” setting on the Bluetooth Settings page.
  • We fixed an issue resulting in an unexpected extra ~20 sec being added to the phone shutdown process due to a deadlock if you tried to shut down soon after switching from one network to another.
  • We have added a privacy page to the Windows 10 Mobile OOBE and upgrade experiences that allows you to quickly and effectively make common privacy changes while setting up the device. However, Insiders have reported that their device would crash or reboot shortly after unlocking their device for the first time after the upgrade if their device did not have a password configured to unlock the device.
  • We fixed the targeting issue that caused some variants of the Alcatel IDOL 4S to not receive Build 15204 last week. All variants of the Alcatel IDOL 4S should receive Build 15205.
  • FYI: We fixed the issue where supported Windows 10 Mobile devices were showing the update to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update as “not yet available” in the Upgrade Advisor app.
  • We fixed an issue where Continuum would stop working when HP Elite X3 case is closed.
  • We fixed an issue where Continuum would hang or render incorrectly after disconnecting on devices like the Lumia 950.
  • We fixed an issue with Microsoft Edge where you might get into a bad state after opening a new Microsoft Edge windows and screen off with the JIT process suspended.
  • We fixed an issue with where the device screen might stay black when disconnecting from a Continuum dock after screen has timed out normally.
  • We fixed an issue with backup and restore which impacts users with slower network connection.
  • We fixed an issue around Microsoft Edge reliability.
  • We have added a new privacy page to the Windows 10 Mobile OOBE experience that allows you to quickly and effectively make common privacy changes while setting up the device. Y
