Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.8925 to the Beta Channel, introducing significant accessibility enhancements for Narrator and refreshable braille displays. The update focuses on making Windows easier to use for people who are blind or deaf-blind by simplifying setup, improving compatibility, and enabling braille support from the very first screen of the Windows installation process.
These improvements are part of Microsoft’s continued investment in making Windows 11 more inclusive and accessible for everyone.
Narrator Now Supports Instant HID Braille Connections
One of the biggest changes in this build is support for HID (Human Interface Device) braille displays. Previously, connecting a refreshable braille display often required installing additional drivers or software. With Build 26220.8925, supported HID braille devices can now be connected instantly via USB with no extra setup required.
This streamlined experience allows users to begin reading with Narrator immediately after plugging in a compatible device.
Bluetooth Braille Support Gets Simpler
Microsoft has also improved wireless connectivity for braille displays.
Users can now pair compatible HID braille displays through:
Settings > Bluetooth & devices
Once paired, Narrator can use the display wirelessly without requiring complicated configuration, making portable braille devices more convenient than ever.
Braille Works During Windows Setup (OOBE)
Perhaps the most impactful addition is support for HID braille displays during the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE).
Users can now connect a supported braille display via USB while setting up a new Windows 11 PC. This enables people who are deaf-blind to complete the Windows setup process independently from the very first screen, significantly improving accessibility and reducing the need for assistance.

Build 26220.8925 also makes braille configuration more accessible. Users can customize braille input and output options directly from:
