Microsoft is quietly working on a small but highly noticeable quality-of-life improvement for Windows 11 users. A newly discovered change in Windows 11 Build 26300.8553 includes a fix for the infamous white flash that appears in File Open and Save As dialogs when using Dark Mode.
The feature is present in the latest build but is not yet rolling out to users. The hidden feature has been identified under Feature ID 61372722 (WhiteFlashOnFileOpenSaveDialog).
A Long-Standing Dark Mode Irritation
Windows 11’s Dark Mode has improved significantly over the years, but some legacy system components still fail to fully match the dark theme experience.
One of the most noticeable examples occurs when users open File Open or Save As dialogs. Even with Dark Mode enabled system-wide, these dialogs can briefly flash a bright white background before loading, creating an inconsistent visual experience and causing discomfort, especially in low-light environments.
For users who spend hours working with documents, images, code editors, and creative applications, those repeated flashes can quickly become annoying.
Hidden Fix Found in Build 26300.8553
According to findings from the latest Windows 11 preview build, Microsoft has added a hidden fix designed specifically to eliminate these white flashes.
The feature carries the internal identifier:
61372722 – WhiteFlashOnFileOpenSaveDialog
While the fix is included in Build 26300.8553, it is currently disabled and not rolling out publicly. This suggests Microsoft is still testing the implementation before enabling it for Windows Insiders and eventually releasing it to all users.
Build 26300.8553 also includes a (not yet rolling out) fix for white flashes in file open/save as dialogs when in dark mode!

Why This Matters
At first glance, removing a white flash may seem like a minor change. However, it highlights Microsoft’s continued effort to modernize Windows 11 and improve consistency across the operating system.
Dark Mode users have frequently reported issues where older Windows components do not fully respect theme settings. Eliminating these inconsistencies helps create a more polished and professional experience.
Benefits of the change could include:
- More consistent Dark Mode behavior
- Reduced visual distractions
- Better comfort during nighttime usage
- Improved accessibility for light-sensitive users
- A cleaner overall Windows 11 experience
Microsoft Continues Refining Windows 11
Over the past year, Microsoft has focused heavily on improving Windows 11’s visual consistency, modernizing legacy interfaces, and refining the user experience.
While major AI features and Copilot updates often grab headlines, smaller usability improvements like this can have an equally meaningful impact on daily productivity.
The inclusion of the WhiteFlashOnFileOpenSaveDialog fix in Build 26300.8553 suggests Microsoft is paying attention to long-standing user feedback and continuing its effort to make Windows 11 feel more polished.
For now, the feature remains hidden, but its presence in the latest build indicates that a full rollout could arrive in a future Insider release or stable Windows 11 update.
