Microsoft is expected to release the annual Windows 11 update known as version 22h2 or Sun Valley 2 update also codenamed as “Copper” update later this year. Now, references to Windows 11 update for year 2023 that may be known as Version 23H2 aka Gallium aka Sun Valley 3 (SV3) update have started appearing.
First coming to why Windows 11 version 23H2 may be known as Gallium and not Copper as many are claiming. Windows 10/11 version 21H2 was codenamed “Cobalt”, 22H1 as Nickel, while version 22H2 was codenamed “Copper”. So, one can notice that Microsoft is codenaming six-monthly updates as elements in Periodic table.
So, Windows 10/11 version 23H1 will be codenamed “Zinc” and 23H2 will be referred as “Gallium” internally. These codenames represent internal testing and development statuses of Windows OS, but Windows 11 update are annual in nature. So, while Microsoft will release Windows 11 version 22H2 aka Copper this year, Windows 11 version 23H2 aka Gallium will be released in year 2023.
Now, references to Windows 11 version 23H2 aka Sun Valley 3 update have started appearing. An official video has revealed a PowerPoint file named as “SV3 Refined investments next steps”. The “SV3” is abbreviation for for Sun Valley 3.
So, Microsoft may have already planned some new features and changes as part of the Windows 11 version 23H2 Gallium aka Sun Valley 3 update coming in 2023.
Coming to year 2022, the Windows 11 update destined to come out this year will be the version 22H2. As per a new report this update will bring much-desired and currently missing Taskbar features back. It may also bring system-wide Dark mode and many other new features and UI changes.
The Windows 11 version 22H2 update is termed Sun Valley 2 update internally. It may follow the Windows 11 21H2 release date schedule. Read more about Windows 11 version 22H2 new features and release date by clicking here.
