Microsoft releases the Xbox July console update
Microsoft has started rolling out the Xbox July 2026 console update, bringing a wide range of quality-of-life improvements for Xbox players. The latest update introduces longer unique Gamertags, a redesigned game library, enhanced profile customization, easier access to service alerts, and several upgrades for cloud gaming and the Xbox Accessories app.
The update focuses on making the Xbox experience more personalized while improving navigation and accessibility across the console.
What’s new in the Xbox July update?
Longer unique Gamertags
One of the biggest additions is support for unique Gamertags of up to 15 characters, giving players more flexibility when creating or updating their Xbox identity.
Redesigned game library
The Xbox library receives a cleaner look with:
- Poster-style game artwork
- Option to remove informational badges
- A more streamlined browsing experience
The changes make large game collections easier to navigate while offering a more immersive visual layout.
Home now shows service alerts and release notes
Xbox users can now access:
- Live Xbox service alerts
- Console update release notes
directly from the Home screen, making it easier to stay informed about platform status and new features without opening separate apps or webpages.
More profile customization
Players can now personalize their Xbox profiles with:
- Custom profile colors using HEX color codes
- Colors automatically matched from their profile photo
These additions offer significantly more control over profile appearance than previous updates.
Easier social features
Viewing another player’s profile now displays mutual friends, making it easier to discover shared connections across Xbox Live.
Wishlist directly from game cards
Adding games to your wishlist is now faster, thanks to a new option available directly from a game’s store card.
Accessories and cloud gaming improvements
Microsoft has also updated several platform features, including:
- Improvements to the Xbox Accessories app
- Better offline customization options
- Enhancements to the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience
These changes aim to deliver a smoother experience whether players are gaming locally or streaming from the cloud.
A quality-of-life update for every Xbox player
While the July update doesn’t introduce new hardware features, it significantly improves everyday usability across the Xbox ecosystem. From longer Gamertags and a cleaner game library to expanded customization options and quicker access to important system information, the update delivers meaningful improvements that many Xbox users have been requesting.
The Xbox July 2026 update is rolling out now and should become available to eligible consoles over the coming days.
