Microsoft offers fix for Insider Office apps booting error (Build 1804, 1805 & 1806)

Office

Microsoft today in a blog post shared issue that is inevitable in builds 1806, 1805 and 1804. With the exception of Production ring, the issue persists for both the Fast and the Slow ring users. All the Office apps are impacted in these builds without a single exception.

Users are getting an error while booting office apps such as Outlook, Excel, Word and to name a few. The error comes with a message suggesting that the user should launch apps in safe mode.

The company claims that they have already fixed the issue by enabling a server side setting. But The Office insider team is well aware of the fact that the issue is still visible to a handful amount of users. For those who are still facing the problem, Microsoft has ways to address the issue. To fix the issue, the user requires knowledge in the registry editor settings. The issue can be resolved by deleting certain registry keys. If you are not at all a tech-savvy then you should be very careful while performing them.

To access the registry key, press Win+R then write regedit and press Enter.

Look for these registry keys and delete them:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Licensing\CurrentSkuIdForApp
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Experiment
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentEcs
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentTas

Microsoft is working on other ways to fix the issue in which the end user requires a lot less or no technical knowledge to resolve the issue. We will let you know as soon as other fixes go live. Meanwhile, perform the above fix and let us know if that worked for you.
