In our previous tutorial on Windows Package Manager, we discussed in detail about the features and how to download/install winget on a Windows 10 PC.
In this tutorial, you will learn how to use winget to automate the process of search, download and installation of single (or bulk) application on a Windows 10 machine.
If you have not already downloaded winget, please do this first and then come back to this page.
In order to get an idea of what software could be downloaded, we have a very good website.
On https://winstall.app/ you can find the most essential and commonly used apps (750+) on Windows and also generate a script which you can copy/paste it into Windows Terminal, Command Prompt, or any other terminal on your Windows machine to start installing the apps.
Let us try installing ‘Tweeten’ app, which is a third party but powerful Twitter client for Windows.
Go to this page and type ‘tweeten’ in the search box provided.
Select Tweeten from search results and click Generate script button at the bottom of the page. (FYI, you can select multiple apps as well).
This will take you to a new page with a textbox and few options to select either the Command line version or the PowerShell script.
For the sake of this tutorial, we will try and copy the Command line script by clicking on the big ‘Copy to clipboard’ button.
Next, on your PC, open Command Prompt and paste the line of script copied above, and hit Enter on keyboard.
Now, you can sit back, relax and watch the magic happen before your eyes!
In a few minutes, depending on your internet connection, winget will find the software on the web, download it and finally install it on your machine. No clicks!
And as mentioned before, you can download and install MULTIPLE apps at the same time.
It is a simple, fast and an efficient way to install apps if you did a fresh installation of Windows, or have a brand new PC and want those essential apps as quickly as possible.
