Indian manufacturers Lava and Karbonn have now confirmed their plans to launch Windows Phone handsets. Kabonn will launch 4 new low-end handsets based on Windows Phone OS by end of May to starting of June. The pricing of these devices will be between INR 6,000-12,000. Lava also hs plans of launcing a series of Windows Phone based devices in the price range of 6,500-8,500. Lava has further confirmed that the devices will run on Snapdragon 200 processor.
Karbonn’s Windows Phone devices will be in the price range of Rs 6,000-12,000. Lava’s price starts with Rs 6,500.
“We will come out with four devices with Windows-based operating system by the end of May or starting of June in the price range of 6,000-12,000,” Karbonn Managing Director Pradeep Jain told .
Lava International CEO and MD Hari Om Rai said: “A series of Windows-based phones will be launched under the Lava brand by July. These will be priced in the range of Rs 6,500-8,500.”
While Microsoft has announced 9 new hardware partners at MWC 2014, a report has claimed that both Lava and Karbonn have been offered Windows Phone OS for free by Microsoft. So, if that is true, Microsoft may be seriously targeting low-end mass market responsible for the huge Android smartphone volume.
