Microsoft recently announced the support for granular tenant settings in Power BI. When analysing the most critical business data through Power BI service, administrators in organizations often fail to take control of how Power BI is used in their organizations.
To remedy the issue, Power BI admin portal now includes fined tuned tenant settings for administrators. With this release, organizations and more specifically administrators can now enable or disable different Power BI features for only a subset of users in their tenant.
Untill now, all settings made were at an organizational level and turning them off affected all Power BI users in the tenant.
With the new Power BI admin portal, administrators can view usage data and set tenant-wide controls over what Power BI features are available to their organization. For example, if your organization have concerns over data being shared externally, you can switch off external sharing for your organization.
At this time, the following tenant settings can now be managed at a granular level:
- Share content to external users
- Export reports as PowerPoint presentations
- Export Data
- Print dashboards and reports
- Publish content packs to the entire organization
- Create template organizational content packs
- Use Analyze in Excel with on-premises datasets
