When we first reported about Microsoft’s foldable Centaurus device, the source of the information claimed that it will be powered by Intel Lakefield processor. But reactions from netizens made it clear that they were expecting an ARM chip powered foldable device from Microsoft.
Now, a new report from “Petri” claims that Centaurus hardware has many configurations under testing. Some of the protos have Intel processors while others have ARM processors. The report further claims that Microsoft has yet to find a compelling business case for this device.
While the original report claimed that Microsoft was planning to launch Centaurus in Q1 or H1 2020, this report neither confirms nor denies the launch plans. Since the ARM processor for Surface Pro 7 ARM variant we heard is being developed in close collaboration with Qualcomm it may be interesting to know what kind of ARM processor Centaurus ARM variant will come with.
Will it be the rumored Snapdragon SCX8180 that for PCs is considered to be the equivalent to the flagship mobile processor Snapdragon 855. It is an octa-core processor with four Gold ARM Cortex A76 cores clocked at 3.0 GHz + four Silver ARM Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz.
