Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced the next generation of Skype to the world. The new Skype app quickly made its appearance in the Play Store for Android and a few weeks later was found in the App Store for iPhone, too.
Now in order to unify the experience, Microsoft is releasing a preview of its next-gen Skype app for desktop computers including the Mac.
Microsoft is committed to providing its users a great Skype experience and that is why they will require your feedback on this journey.
For Mac, Windows 10 November Update and lower, Windows 8, and Windows 7 users, Skype Preview delivers most of the great features of our next-generation mobile experience but is specifically designed with desktop in mind, to take full advantage of the larger screen.
If you are familiar with the Skype mobile app, the new desktop app inherits all those features plus features that are exclusive to desktop like real-time screen sharing etc.
@mentions, message reactions, and a new notification panel—Stay on top of your day with help from the notification panel. Quickly jump back into conversations where you were @mentioned to see how people reacted to what you’ve said.
New chat media gallery—Finding shared content—such as links, documents, or media—in a chat has never been easier with the chat gallery.
Enhanced group calls—Customize your group call experience with drag and drop ease. Say it with an emoji using our new in-call reactions, too!
If you’re using the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and above, some of these features are already available in the Windows 10 version of the Skype app.
Excited about the new Skype app? Get it today by downloading Skype Preview for non-Windows 10 PCs and Macs today at Skype Insider. Skype Preview will install alongside Skype classic, making it easy to switch back if needed. However, only one instance of the app is recommended at a time to avoid duplication of notifications or messages etc.
