Microsoft has shared vital information on supportability of running Office applications on newly announced 10.13 macOS High Sierra by Apple. While the new operating system is not generally available to all users right away, developers and beta testers may have access to beta seeds and Apple is planning to release 10.13 as a free upgrade to all Mac users by the end of this year.

If you happen to work a lot with Office on your machine, probably a MacBook, and have installed the latest High Sierra software as well for testing purposes, then chances are that running Office applications will no longer work as you would expect and you may run into issues while doing so.

First things first, check what version of Office you are running., in case you do not know.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote will install and run on 10.13. Not all Office functionality may be available, and you may encounter stability problems where apps unexpectedly quit. During the beta period for macOS 10.13 High Sierra, no formal support is available for this Office configuration.

We strongly recommend that you back up your existing data before trying the software.

If you encounter issues using Office 2016 for Mac on High Sierra, please send us feedback so we can address them. In Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, you can click on the Send a Smile icon in the top-right of the app. For Outlook, choose Contact Support from the Help menu.

15.34 and earlier These versions are not supported on 10.13. In some cases, you may not be able to launch the Office apps. For example, users will see the following error message when attempting to launch Outlook 2016 ver. 15.34:

Office for Mac 2011

Since, all applications in the Office for Mac 2011 suite are reaching end of support on October 10th, 2017, Microsoft will not be spending time to test Word, Excel or PowerPoint etc., on macOS 10.13 and no formal support will be provided.

While this is actually painful, but considering the fact that this is a pre-release software, Microsoft will be adding support for 10.13 macOS in the coming months or so, for the rest assured.
