On 2nd of October Microsoft rolled out the much awaited Windows 10 October 2018 update. Now some users on Reddit are reporting that their files went missing after updating to the latest version of Windows 10. The complaints also made their way even on Microsoft forum.

“I have just updated my windows using the October update (10, version 1809) it deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220gb. This is unbelievable, I have been using Microsoft products since 1995 and nothing like that ever happened to me.

Files were located at C:/Users/rober/Documents/

This location is still present, with no files. All of files deleted.” – a user on Microsoft forum page

“This happened to both of our Win10 pc’s. It doesn’t bother me since i mainly use macbook, but my wife lost all her photos and documents from past five years. Anything we can do to get them back? (Files are not in onedrive, windows.old etc folders)” – a user on reddit

As it’s been only two days since the update rolled out to the public, Microsoft does not have any solution at the moment, and we did not hear anything official from the horse’s mouth either. Nevertheless, some people have tried solving the issue by rolling back to the previous Windows 10 version 1803. That did not improve the situation either. To this, it would be interesting to see what Microsoft says and when they come up with some solution that resolves the issue. As we did not hear anything from Microsoft, we expect some sort of update on Patch Tuesday next week just to make things better.
