Microsoft is quietly testing a useful window-management improvement in Windows 11 that could make everyday desktop use a little more convenient. A new experimental option allows users to open apps maximized by default, eliminating the need to manually maximize a window after launching it.

The feature, called MaximizeWindow, is already quietly rolling out to some Windows Insiders under feature ID 62915050.

Windows 11 Could Make App Launching More Convenient

Windows 11 can remember window size and position for many applications, but the behavior isn’t always consistent. Some apps still open in smaller windows, requiring users to click the maximize button each time.

The new MaximizeWindow option appears designed to address that annoyance by allowing supported apps to launch directly in a maximized state.

For users who prefer working with applications at full size, this could be a simple but welcome quality-of-life improvement.

A Small Change With Everyday Benefits

The feature may not look like a major Windows 11 update, but it could make a difference for people who repeatedly maximize the same applications throughout the day.

On laptops and smaller displays, opening apps maximized can also make better use of the available screen space. Instead of resizing windows manually, Windows could handle the process automatically based on the user’s preference.

MaximizeWindow Is Still Experimental

Microsoft is currently testing the feature with Windows Insiders, and it isn’t available to everyone yet.

The MaximizeWindow experiment is associated with feature ID 62915050. Because it is still under testing, Microsoft could change how it works, expand or restrict availability, or decide not to ship it in a future public release.

When Will the Feature Be Available to Everyone?

There is currently no confirmed public release date for the new maximize-by-default option.

If testing is successful, Microsoft could eventually introduce it to a wider Windows 11 audience through a future update. However, experimental features can remain in testing for some time before becoming generally available.

For now, the feature gives Windows Insiders another small usability improvement to watch.

Windows 11 Keeps Refining the Desktop Experience

The MaximizeWindow experiment shows that Microsoft is continuing to work on smaller details of the Windows 11 desktop experience.

While opening apps maximized by default isn’t a headline-grabbing change, it could remove a repetitive step for millions of users who prefer their applications to use the entire screen.

Windows 11 users may soon have a simple new way to make their preferred window behavior the default.
