Few users are facing update errors like 0x800736b3, 0x800f0991 and 0x800f0838 resulting in the failure of installation of the update. For some it just fails or gets stuck at certain percentage.

Error 0x800736b3 and 0x800f0838 when installing KB5058411 (Windows 11 24H2 x64 update)
Hello community,

I’m experiencing a persistent issue when trying to install the KB5058411 cumulative update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 (x64), released on May 13, 2025 (OS Build 26100.4061).

Initial symptoms:

Windows Update stalls at 6% download.
Then returns error 0x800f081f.
After manually downloading and executing the .msu file from the Microsoft Update Catalog, I get error 0x800f0838.
The CBS logs and Event Viewer also show error 0x800736b3.

Important note:

The 0x800736b3 error is officially listed as resolved by the KB5058411 update itself:

“Addresses an issue that causes the installation of a cumulative update to fail with error code 0x800736b3 after a Features on Demand (FOD) installation fails.”
In my case, I am stuck in a loop where the update that should fix the error cannot be installed because of that same error.

Problem with windows update KB5058411
Installation fails and error code 0x800f0991 comes up.

unable to download window11 version 24H2 (KB5058411)
unable to download window11 version 24H2 (KB5058411)

I’d avoid this update for now. I rarely have issues with Windows Updates and generally do them quickly for security posture. This one got me during the reboot/apply changes flow.

I’m on W11 24H2 and honestly can’t remember the last time I had an error like that, maybe 5 years ago?!? Today was the day I got that same error message and could not install the update.

I’m gonna hold on for a while and see if more info on that matter is shared on the internet.

802.1x Authentication Failure After Windows 11 Update KB5058411 – Request for Technical Investigation
I am encountering 802.1x enterprise network authentication failures on my Windows 11 device after installing the latest update KB5058411. Below are detailed observations and technical troubleshooting steps. I kindly request your assistance in confirming whether this issue is related to the update and providing remediation guidance.

Issue Description

Authentication Protocol: Failure occurs during the PEAP (Protected EAP) Phase 2 MSCHAPv2 handshake.
Packet Capture Analysis: Wireshark logs indicate that after the TLS tunnel is established, the server sends a hash value (EAP-Request/MSCHAPv2 Challenge), but the client fails to respond with subsequent requests (no EAP-Response packets observed).
Impact: All 802.1x-dependent network connections (corporate Wi-Fi and wired networks) are unavailable.
Environment Details

OS: Windows 11 Pro,
Update Status: The issue emerged post-installation of KB5058411. Rolling back the update resolves the problem.
Network Infrastructure: Ruijie wireless controllers.
Troubleshooting Steps Performed

Filtered Wireshark logs using eap && wlan.ta == [client MAC] to validate abnormal server-client interaction.
Reset network adapters, updated drivers, and enforced Group Policy (gpupdate /force) with no resolution.

Lenovo x7 snapdragon elite. Time zone is completely wrong and I can’t change it manually, it just reverts back. And hdr is all messed up, showing weird flashing. This update was bad. Hope it gets fixed asap. Edit – and the laptop wouldn’t connect to 6ghz networks. Uninstalling the update fixed everything except the timezone issue.
