Microsoft has recently released 2025 July update KB5062553 for Windows 11 version 24H2. You can read what the update KB5062553 brings with itself by clicking here. Now, it seems that the update KB5062553 is causing HDR and file explorer issues for many. It also fails to install and not even getting downloaded for many users with various error codes. Two major issues seen in previous Windows 11 24H2 updates; event viewer firewall error and easy Anti cheat remains unresolved even after claim to contrary.

Many users 1, 2, 3, 4 are reporting issues with HDR and File explorer after installing the Windows 11 24H2 update KB5062553.

Hi,

After installing KB5062553 today, my HDR becomes disabled. I cannot toggle the HDR button in Display. I’ve to uninstall 3 separate updates, and they’re all under different numbers than the one shown in Windows Update History. I think the one that fixed the problem is the one with Security Update in the name. Will the problem be fixed soon? As of now, I pause the Windows Update for 5 weeks.

KB5060829 causes issues with Windows 11 Pro 24H2 when switching HDR mode on – and now KB5062553 does the same thing

Hi – I originally asked this initial question in the Microsoft Support Community, but it won’t let me add to the thread – it keeps asking me to come here, so I need to re-ask the question. (Probably related to migration to this Q&A platform).

In any case, the issue was initially related to Preview update KB5060829 which was causing issues switching HDR on using the switch in Settings > Display which would cause my screen to go blank like normal, but it would return back to the same screen again with the HDR button still in the off position and my TV not activated into HDR.

Through some help from @DaveM121 (thank you Dave) and some AI searching it became clear that this recent update and perhaps the one before it had caused issues with switching to HDR, so rolling back this update fixed the problem, and I turned off preview updates by switching the “get updates as soon as they are available” to off – meaning I think this means I only get the cumulative updates once they are ready for full release.

Fast forward to today when full update KB5062553 was available, and after installing that full update (not preview) – the HDR issue has returned, so unfortunately I’ve had to rollback that update too.

What I wanted to understand is what to do about this – clearly there’s been a bug introduced in these latest updates that has broken the HDR capability, as rolling back to KB5063060 is the last update that keeps HDR working. I’ve paused Updates for the moment until I get perhaps some advice here on what to do.

I can confirm as soon as I’ve rolled back, HDR activates properly again and all is well, but if I enable updates again, it will try to install KB5062553 and the HDR issue will resume.

My system details are as follows:

Intel i7 8700

Gigabyte Z370N Wifi motherboard

32gb RAM

Windows 11 Pro (24H2)

I’m also running an LG OLED 65C7T which has successfully displayed HDR with this configuration for 7 years.

Anyone else having this issue? I’d rather not pause updates if I don’t have to, but if it installs again, I’ll lose HDR again.

I welcome any advice and thoughts and apologies I’ve had to retype this out, but my original question from the other week couldn’t be replied to given the migration to Microsoft Q&A from the Community Support channel.

Cheers,
Mike.

File Explorer stopped working after Windows update KB5063060 Please HELP!!!!

Windows update KB5063060 on June 16th caused File Explorer to not open fully. It opens in taskbar, but does not open in a window. Windows just did 2 updates yesterday 7.9.2025 (KB5062553 & KB5056579), but unfortunately that did not fix the problem. I tried many suggested fixes except for reinstalling Windows and uninstalling that update. Any suggestions/help is appreciated.

Thank you!

I’d avoid this update for now. I rarely have issues with Windows Updates and generally do them quickly for security posture. This one got me during the reboot/apply changes flow.

I’m on W11 24H2 and honestly can’t remember the last time I had an error like that, maybe 5 years ago?!? Today was the day I got that same error message and could not install the update.

I’m gonna hold on for a while and see if more info on that matter is shared on the internet.

Many users 1, 2, 3 are reporting issues with the installation of the update KB5062553 itself in the first place. Few users are facing update errors like 0x8007045b, 0x800f0983 and 0x80070306 resulting in the failure of installation of the update. For some it just fails or gets stuck at certain percentage.

How do I fix a 0x8007045b error on Windows 11 24H2 when trying to install KB5062553 update?

Cant Install KB5062553. Win.Build 26100.3194 Errorcode 0x80070306

Many users are also reporting that two already acknowledged Windows 11 24H2 major issues; event viewer firewall error and easy Anti cheat remains unresolved even after installation of Windows 11 24H2 update KB5062553.

[Windows Firewall] Fixed: This update addresses an issue found in Event Viewer as Event 2042 for Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. The event appears as “Config Read Failed” with the message “More data is available.” For more information about this issue, see “Error events are logged for Windows Firewall” in the Windows Health Dashboard.
Still reporting spam “Config Read Failed” events of Event 2042 for Windows Firewall with Advanced Security in Event Viewer.

It’s false claims.  Microsoft claims that this issue has been fixed, but the reality is that the error still exists.

I thought I was the only one. Have been scratching my head over this issue for 6+ months. PC randomly reboots only during mp games with easy anti cheat and ace anti cheat. Stress tested my PSU, GPU, CPU, reinstalled windows, bios update, deleted GPU drivers and reinstalled, etc

Turns out it’s windows 11 the entire time.
