Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has touched upon “Microsoft and Phones” in a recent Podcast outing, one of the most debated and speculated of the topics. On being asked about Microsoft’s future plans about Phones, Satya confirms Microsoft’s intentions of making more phones, but also strongly hints at a new form-factor. This is what he says,
We are looking for what’s the next change in form and function. What we have done with Surface is a good example. No one before us thought of two-in-ones and we created that category and made it a successful category to a point where there are more two-in-ones coming and that’s what we want to do.
So in some sense when you say, when will we make more phones; I am sure we will make more phones but they mayn’t look like Phones that are there today.
So, here again we hear about “new mobile form-factor in testing” from Satya Nadella. In one of his latest interviews he talked about looking beyond Mobile Phones and working on new Mobile form-factor.
We recently posted excerpts from Microsoft’s SEC filings that throws some light on Microsoft’s Phone strategy going forward.
Part of this strategy involves focusing our phone devices on a narrower range of customer categories and differentiating through the combination of hardware and software we are uniquely positioned to offer.
It will be interesting to see when we see this new mobile form-factor coming to life from Microsoft. In the meantime you can read more about our Surface Phone coverage by clicking here.
