The Newton mail app was preferred over apps like Mail from Microsoft on Windows 10. Besides the app is a premium one, it gained tractions from the consumer not just on windows but on other platforms like Android and iOS.
The Newton Mail CEO and Founder Rohit Nadhani with a blog post announced the shut-down highlighting some of the important reasons behind the decision. Over these years, the company realizes that the market for premium consumer mail app is just not there yet. Software giants like Microsoft and Google exacerbated the entire market with free high-quality mail apps.
The past few years have been an incredible journey for all of us. We launched CloudMagic in 2013, which instantly became one of the breakout email apps across platforms, with love and support from over 4 million users. Later in 2016, we (re)launched a subscription-based premium email app called Newton, and over 40,000 paid subscribers signed up and have been our loyal users since. We want to say a big THANK YOU to all our users.
The company plans to stop new sign-ups and will not be renewing any monthly subscription. Those using the email client don’t need to worry much as the company plans to refund the annual subscription on pro-rata basis. The company will publish an official instruction to claim your pro-rata refunds no later than 18th September 2018.
