Today Microsoft released a new update for Skype for Web . The update is major one which includes many new features such as support for calling mobile phones and landlines, plus so much more.

Skype for Web is great whether you’re using a shared computer that doesn’t have Skype downloaded, or you just prefer using a web version instead of a downloaded app.

Skype for Web Changelog:

1. Call mobile phones and landlines directly from Skype with low rates:

We’ve updated Skype for Web so you can now save money on your phone calls to mobile phones and landlines. All you need is a little Skype credit or a subscription to start making affordable international calls from Skype. Once you’ve signed in to Skype for Web, simply click on the call phones tab, select your destination, dial the number you’d like to call and then hit the call button.

2. Enjoy watching YouTube videos without leaving Skype

We’ve recently improved the way URLs show up in Skype for Web that now include an image from the webpage. Additionally, if someone posts a YouTube video link in Skype for Web, you’ll be able to watch it directly in Skype. You get all the same volume and full-screen controls you have in YouTube, but you won’t have to open a new browser window to watch the video—it’ll instantly play directly in Skype.

3. Add new people to a conversation, even if they’re not on Skype

One of the most exciting features we recently launched to Skype for Windows desktop users is a new way to add people to a Skype chat. Now we’ve brought this feature to Skype for Web, so you can create a chat with anyone by pressing +New and then ‘Share conversation.’ We’ll then give you a unique conversation URL that you can share however you want. And, anyone that clicks the URL can join your chat—it’s perfect for inviting people to your chat if they’re not currently a Skype contact. Best of all, you don’t even need to know if they already use Skype because they can join your conversation as a guest using Skype for Web. Give it a try and invite someone new to a conversation on Skype.

4. Never miss a conversation

We’ve added notifications to Skype for Web, so that you’ll never miss an important IM, call or a friend sending you a picture of their new kitten. As long as you’re signed into Skype for Web, you’ll receive notifications, even if you’re in another browser tab or another app.
