2020-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4556799) – Error 0x800f0988
Windows not updating properly has gotten to the point where it would occasionally crash if I was playing a game. I don’t know how common this problem is right now but it’s just refusing to update no matter what.

If you check in Microsoft’s official answers community you will find reports of users facing even more error codes like 0x80070002 and 0x80073701 and not able to install.

Microsoft has not mentioned any installation failure in the known issues of update KB4556799. If more people report installation failure issues it won’t be a surprise keeping in mind how botched these security updates have been on a regular basis.
