Microsoft has recently released 2025 preview update KB5053656 for Windows 11 version 24H2. You can read all the new features and changes that this update brings by clicking here. Now, it seems that the update KB5053598 fails to install for many, is causing some issues for other users.
Many users 1, 2, 3, 4 are not able to install the Windows 11 24H2 update KB5053656 in the first place as reported in the official Microsoft forum. Few users are facing update errors resulting in the failure of installation of the update. For some it just fails or gets stuck at certain percentage.
KB5053656 won’t install – “Something didn’t go as planned”
My Windows 11 PC has had KB5053656 queued to install for weeks however upon every attempt the install will fail and roll itself back after displaying the “”Something didn’t go as planned” message.
I’ve tried the usual steps – DISM, SFC and a Windowws 11 reset (while retaining my files and settings).
I’ve also tried running the Windows Update troubleshooter however that returns an error saying the diagnostic failed to run. To remedy that I’ve tried steps to reset the update cache file. Those steps went off without issue however I’m still not able to run the Windows Update troubleshooter.
Is there any advice on what to do with KB5053656 for those who can’t run it?
Any advice on how to run the Windows Update troubleshooter also appreciated, thanks.
Why i can’t be able to install update to my windows machine after downloading, and it’s showing error to install update, and undoing all update changes. How can i get solution to solve this problem?
The update’s (2025-03 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5053656), 2025-01 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64 (KB5050577)) is not getting installed in my windows machine and its showing like “the things were not going as planned, no need to worry, we are undoing the changes” -displaying this error message and restarting normally and again showing to update the windows. I tried to update several times it’s not getting updated and as usually displaying to update my windows machine. As well i tried to run windows troubleshooter in my windows machine but it can’t be able to find the solution for my problem
Some Users are reporting Brightness and File explorer issues after installation of the Windows 11 24H2 update KB5053656.
Windows 11 update KB5053656 lowers monitor brightness
This update seems to have a bug. When I reboot my desktop after the installation, I find the brightness level of my LG monitor has been darkened (not completely black, just darker). It’s not a personalization setting issue–the illumination of all images on the computer become darker. I’ve tried installing and uninstalling the update twice and it’s always the same results. Why is this specific update doing this to the brightness of my monitor? If there is no solution, then please tell me how I can block any further installations of this specific update.
Do not download this update yet until it is fixed, this update causes windows file explorer to void itself and be very very slow. (Try searching for an app on newest update.)
Since this is an optional preview update, users can choose to avoid installing this update. All the features of the Windows 11 update KB5053656 will be available in the April Patch Tuesday update, though, Microsoft may need to take a look and fix the issues beforehand.
