Microsoft has started testing a whole new interface to enable Microsoft Edge users to choose and apply a color-based theme for the browser which suits their style. (via techdows.com )


This new menu can be found under Edge Settings > Appearance but is normally hidden and needs to be activated via edge://flags since this is an experimental feature by nature at the moment.


We have discussed it before when Microsoft introduced support for Themes for the chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser and now the company has developed a new tool that lets you choose from a set of auto-generated themes depending on the operating system the browser is running on. The color themes look clean and each one has a name, as can be seen in the screenshot below.

So, how do you activate it? Well, at the time of this writing, it is available on all versions of Microsoft Edge (Stable, Dev and Canary). You are free to download any version and test it out for yourself.

How to enable picker for Color-based themes in Microsoft Edge

  • Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
  • Type edge://flags in the address bar and press enter on the keyboard.
  • Type ‘color’ in the search box provided to narrow down the results.
  • Select Enabled from the dropdown for enable picker for color based themes option. (When enabled, gives a set of options for autogenerated themes based on a base color – Mac, Windows, Linux)
  • Restart the browser.
  • Now go to Edge Settings > Appearance and you can see the new theme selection menu.
