Microsoft is working to enable a new and interesting Chromium Edge feature on Windows 10 devices powered by Intel IceLake procesors and above. It seems that a patch upgrade Microoft is working on, as a recent “commit” reveals, Microsoft Edge will be able to play HDR videos though overlay on such Windows 10 devices.
As explained in the commit Intel has recently started to support RGB10 overlay. The patch in question will enable this feature on Windows.
Enable playing HDR video through overlay on Intel platform
Intel begin to support RGB10 overlay on Icelake or above platform. This patch enable this feature on Windows. With this patch, HDR video will be played through overlay which will provide better power performance.
This will not only result in HDR videos playback trhough overlay but will also provide better powere performance.
