Back in November Microsoft announced that it is changing the app icons of nearly all the Office apps across different platforms. Later in December, the company announced new icon designs for some other apps on Windows 10 which include Calendar, Calculator, Groove Music, Mail, Voice Recorder, Alarms & Clock and Movies & TV, etc.
Now the company has finally started rolling out the new fluent design based icons for all these apps in Windows 10. The new icons are being pushed to users of Windows 10 in the Windows Insider Fast Ring program.

This rollout and design change is part of broader thinking of the company with which it wants the apps to look more modern and neat. These new app icons are planned to appear in the Windows 10X launcher also which is a modern OS and so does it need a modern app icon philosophy.
The above picture shows us the evolution of the Mail icon from the old age of Windows.
The company had gone for several icons and out of which they choose one which is now part of the rollout.
The above icon shows us the different icon layout companies had prepared to start from the monochrome version (in the extreme left) to the fluent version (extreme right) which is the final version now.
