14

In this tutorial, we will let you know how to update to Windows 10 May 2020 update using the official Media Creation Tool or using the downloaded ISO file. Windows 10 official ISOs are available now and we will tell you in detail how you can go about installing or reinstalling the ISO on your devices, creating installation media (create Bootable USB / DVD drive) and do a clean install of Windows 10. Before you go for the installation using ISO files, you need to read this.

Requirements:

  • Make sure you have:
    • An internet connection (internet service provider fees may apply).
    • Sufficient data storage available on a computer, USB or external drive for the download.
    • A blank USB or DVD (and DVD burner) with at least 4 GB of space if you want to create media. We recommend using a blank USB or blank DVD, because any content on it will be deleted.
  • Read the System Requirements.
  • If you will be installing the operating system for the first time, you will need your Windows product key (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx). For more information about product keys and when they are required, visit the FAQ page.

Upgrading to Windows 10 officially:

You need to use the Media creation tool to upgrade to Windows 10. This tool provides the best download experience for customers running Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. This tool includes:

  • File formats optimized for download speed.
  • Built-in media creation options for USBs and DVDs.
  • Optional conversion to ISO file format.

Steps:

  1. Find the media creation tool on the Software download page or click here if the download page still shows the old Media creation tool.

  2. Select Download tool, and select Run (or choose to Save the tool if you don’t want to run it now). You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
  3. Run the tool, if you didn’t already select Run above. (You need to be an Administrator on the PC to run it.)
  4. If you’re upgrading this PC, select Upgrade this PC now, and then follow the rest of the instructions to finish the upgrade.

Downloading ISO or Creating Windows 10 Bootable USB Drive:

  1. If you want to create media, for example, Bootable USB Drive for a different PC, select Create installation media for another PC after running Media Creation Tool
  2. Use this table to choose the edition of Windows 10 that you want to create media for. Check the screenshot below that shows how one can choose to create USB Bootable Drive for installation of windows 10 on other PCs or just download the ISO
  3. After the download is complete and the Bootable media is created or ISO file is downloaded, select Finish.

  1. You can now install Windows 10 from an ISO, or Bootable USB. Here’s how:
  • Mount the ISO, and then run setup.exe from it.

  • If you downloaded to a USB or a DVD, run setup.exe from the USB or DVD.

Both of these options allow you to upgrade the PC if it’s already running Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10.

Reinstalling Windows 10 with ISO:

If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won’t have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer.
