Surface Phone aka foldable Surface Mobile to feature holographic display, claims new rumor

We have been reporting about the mythical Surface Phone aka foldable Surface Mobile device in our coverage. It is much clear that whatever name Microsoft ends up calling this foldable mobile device, for fans it will still be the “Surface Phone” they have been waiting for.

A new report claims that this Surface Mobile device will feature holographic display. Not much is disclosed about this display but it seems it will be able to project holograms. Rumor also claims that Alex Kipman may be helping the Surface team in developing this hardware.

Microsoft is reportedly working on dual-screen apps to work with the Surface Mobile device that has two hinged displays revealed by many patented designs by Microsoft. The Surface Mobile device in works will also support Pen input for the majority of its productivity apps.

There is also an ongoing confusion about whether Microsoft is calling this hardware as Andromeda or the OS that will power it. As per we know, the Mobile version of Windows 10 on ARM with CShell is the Andromeda and not the hardware.

Microsoft does need to work hard to differentiate this upcoming Surface Mobile device from the Android competition. ZTE has become the first-mover by already launching smartphone Axon M in the US with two 5.2-inch, 1080p displays hinged together. Read more about Axon M here.

Microsoft is working on a foldable mobile device form-factor with a tipped release targeted at 2018. Surface Phone is long rumored to feature a foldable design and we have seen these designs leaking in many patents.

We also exclusively reported that 2018 may see Surface Mobile (Surface Phone) & Windows mobile devices from top vendors too. We still believe this is the case and Microsoft is in touch with its top Windows vendors for the next “refresh” of Windows in Mobile.

We earlier reported about Surface Mobile Devices “Surface Peking & Surface Slavonia” leak in an official video description in China. So, maybe we will have two slightly different designs for both Surface Peking & Surface Slavonia. Read our full Surface Mobile Phone coverage here.

Hopefully, one of the OEMS will create a consumer version.

All of them will be consumer-friendly like other Surface devices but focus still will be enterprise.

The next phone from Microsoft will be virtual. You will need a Hololens or similar MR headset to see and use it. It will all be stored in Azure cloud, so no new actual HW will be required. If you remove the headset, the phone will be gone. The retina scan will be built-in for instant Windows Hello-style authentication. You’ve heard it here first…

That future is still 5-10 years away though it is the future….
