So, we talked about ZET Axon M stealing Surface Phone’s thunder right under Microsoft’s nose. But seems ZTE may not be the only company with a foldable smartphone on offer in 2018. Huawei has just revealed that they are already working on one.

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group had to say this regarding a foldable phone in an interview with CNET.

“We already have a working sample,” Yu said.

“We have two screens,” Yu said. “But we still have a small gap [between the screens]. That’s not good, and we should get rid of that gap.”

Huawei is planning to launch this foldable smartphone next year as per the report.

So, if Microsoft really is working on a foldable mobile device form-factor, it perhaps needs to hurry and bring enough differentiators when it finally does. Microsoft is working on the mythical Surface Phone or Surface Mobile device(s) with a tipped release targeted at 2018.

Surface Phone is long rumored to feature a foldable design and we have seen these designs leaking in many patents. But now it seems it will have some company from the Android side of the world when it is finally made official by Microsoft.

The Surface Phone is supposed to bring one more refresh of Microsoft’s Mobile ambitions and thus will be powered by a new Windows 10 for Mobile OS codenamed “Andromeda”. You can read more about Andromeda here.

We earlier reported about Surface Mobile Devices “Surface Peking & Surface Slavonia” leak in an official video description in China. So, maybe we will have two slightly different designs for both Surface Peking & Surface Slavonia. Read our full Surface Mobile Phone coverage here.
