Edge Canary Update

Microsoft may be working on a deeper Windows 10 search and possibly Windows timeline integration with Microsoft Edge browser. A recent Microsoft Edge Canary build came with an option for some that hints at the development.

Now, the details. A recent Microsoft Edge build released to Canary channel has the option to allow deeper integration between Microsoft Edge and Windows features. This option is under “controlled feature rollout” and may not be available for everyone who may have installed this build 91.0.831.0.

Share browsing data with other Windows features option:

As mentioned above, this option appears for some after installing the Canary build 91.0.831.0. It is under Microsoft Edge profile settings.

As per the description provided by Microsoft, when this options is turned on, Microsoft Edge shares local browsing data from this profile with the rest of Windows.

When turned on, Microsoft Edge will connect local browsing data from this profile with the rest of Windows. Turning this feature on will help you find information from your history, favorites, top sites and recent tabs more easily using features such as Windows search box. If you turn off this feature Microsoft Edge will remove the data shared with Windows on the device and stop sharing any new browsing data from this profile. Learn more

So, Windows search box should be able to find and show information from Edge history, top sites and recent tabs, when this option is on. While the Windows timeline is not mentioned in the official description, it may be possible for timeline to so Microsoft Edge history. This feature was available in the legacy Edge.

Since this is a new addition to Microsoft Edge Canary and may be in development, it has not worked so far. It may be available in a working condition in next Canary release, hopefully. You can read our full Microsoft Edge news coverage by clicking here.
