Microsoft has a new issue to counter after the famous Windows 10 activation debacle. Users on Reddit are complaining about the latest cumulative update(KB4480970) that allegedly causing KMS Activation error, “Not Genuine”, 0xc004f200 on devices running Windows 7.

Add to that, users who use SMBv2 shares were also impacted by the KB4480970 update. It was first noticed on the sysadmin sub-Reddit. But the update was to take more users under its influence and as a result, it also left many users in predicament by causing issues on the Windows 2008 R2 Server as first noticed in another thread on Microsoft TechNet forum. And the worst of all there isn’t any official statement from Microsoft regarding the issue.

However, Microsoft did on their release note mentioned the KMS activation issues and promulgated as a known issue on which they are currently working. As of now, you have no other ways to get rid of the watermark on the bottom right side of your PC. But instead of waiting for Microsoft to fix the issue, you can uninstall the update so as to get rid of the watermark. Follow the below steps.

  • Open Control Panel.
  • Go to Program and Features
  • Click on Installed Update Page. Here you find all the latest update installed on your system
  • Find the update, right click on it and then select uninstall.
  • Reboot your PC in order for the update to take effect.

There is another way to counter those issues. You can also head over to Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following.

reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system /v LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
