We have been reporting about Windows Core Os, OneCore, Andromeda a lot in last few months. Windows Core OS is the ultimate OS unification dream of Microsoft that will be the base OS shared across all Windows iterations powering various form-factors.

Now, a new job opening for “Development Manager (DM) of Device Platform team” posted by Microsoft has explained a bit about Windows Core OS and the OS layers like GameCore and OneCore. It also clearly mentions that Microsoft is looking at new hardware powered by Windows Core OS.

Do you love working on devices? Do you dream of integrating new software experiences with new hardware? If so the Device Platform team may be for you. The SiGMa Device Platform (DPlat) team owns the definition and delivery of Windows Core OS (WCOS), which is the OS shared across all new devices.

There is a OneCore team that owns Windows Core Os, OneCore development efforts.

OneCore: The OneCore team Owns WCOS SKU and OS layering efforts (GameCore, Onecore/OnecoreUAP) APISets, Flexible Links, Windows Compositional Database (WCD), and driving cross org WCOS efforts, like state separation.

Microsoft’s continued investment in new hardware form-factors and Windows Core OS to support it has been in news. Not surprisingly the job opening mentions that too.

DDC: The Differentiated Devices Co-engineering team owns enablement work between new device form factors and emerging versions of Windows (OneCore, WCOS, etc.) in order to inform the changes needed to support OEMs first use of the same emerging version. The team also drives first time SW/HW integration efforts of nascent versions of Windows running on innovative HW designs.

The Surface Phone aka Andromeda foldable device dreams have received a setback with rumors of Microsoft sending the Andromeda OS back to labs for a possible re-work.  But these job openings certainly bring back some hope.

Surface Phone/Andromeda device Features, Specs, UI & other details:

You can read our exclusive coverage of Surface Phone/Mobile top features/specs/UI design, photos & other details here. We last reported exclusively that Surface Phone launch would be aligned with Redstone 5.

We have so far developed a good understanding of Surface Phone/Surface Andromeda device design on the basis of patents that reveal too much. With Andromeda appearing as one of the SKUs of Windows Core OS in latest Windows 10 Preview builds. it seems Microsoft may be finally on track to a 2018 launch for both Andromeda OS and device.

We posted some evidence that shows that Microsoft is already working to curate Apps collections for the Surface Phone/Mobile. We had exclusively reported that 2018 may see Surface Mobile (Surface Phone) & Windows mobile devices from top vendors too. In a recent poll, our readers selected Surface Phone as the most appealing name for the ultimate mobile device from Microsoft. Surface Mobile and Note names came at 2nd and 3rd rank.
